Home backup

Keep your home running.

Whole-home backup is not one product. It is a battery sized to your loads, an inverter sized to your peaks, and a way of connecting the two to your house that suits how you actually live.

  • Essentials to whole house
  • Expandable in stages
  • Solar ready

What can be backed up

Ordered roughly by how much energy each one asks for. Most homes cover the first four comfortably, then decide how far up the list they want to go.

Low draw

Internet and connectivity

Router, modem, mesh points and Starlink. The cheapest thing on the list to protect and usually the most missed.

Low draw

Lighting

LED lighting across a whole house draws less than a single hair dryer. Easy to cover for days rather than hours.

Medium draw

Refrigeration

Fridges and freezers cycle rather than run constantly, which makes them far more affordable to back up than the nameplate suggests.

Medium draw

Water pumps

Short, sharp bursts with a high startup surge. The inverter rating matters more than the battery size here.

High draw

Air conditioning

The load that reshapes every calculation. Possible, and worth doing, but it needs to be planned rather than assumed.

Structural

Smart electrical panels

Decide which circuits stay live and switch over automatically, so the household barely registers that the grid left.

Capacity

Buy the first battery. Add the rest when you want to.

Battery capacity is the one part of the system that does not have to be decided up front. Start with enough to cover essentials, live with it through a few outages, then expand once you know exactly what you wish had stayed on.

  • Extra batteries connect to the host unit, no rewiring
  • Solar can be added at any stage
  • The inverter, not the battery, sets what you can turn on
  • Expansion is a purchase decision, not an install decision

Three levels of backup

A starting framework, not a fixed menu. Most systems we build sit somewhere between two of these.

Solar integration

A battery holds power. Solar refills it.

Without solar, a backup system is a fixed reserve counting down. With solar, it refills every day the sun is out, which changes what a long outage means for your household.
